Passion Project In The Classroom Day 1

As mentioned in my blog post last Friday, students in my Grade 11 Communications class are working on completing a Passion Project.

In order to introduce the concept of Passion Projects to my students,  I provided students with a sticky note and had students close their eyes and write down something they were passionate about. (I got this idea from Runde's Room-Thanks Runde!

I then showed my students the Pep Talk from Kid President Video:

.

We then discussed takeaways from the video which included follow your dreams, persevere in the face of adversity, and our dreams should have an impact.

I then shared some examples of existing student passion projects using this 2-min video to provide them with a sense of what they could possibly create:

I then shared a collaborative Padlet with students and had them think about how they could use their passion to fulfil a real-world need or problem. Here are some of the answers they came up with:

Students were then tasked with developing an inquiry question and proposal for the following Friday which outlines how they will utilize their passion to solve a real-world societal or environmental need.
